Often underestimated, the regular use of an SPF is essential for maintaining healthy, radiant skin and really should sit front of centre of your regime regardless of the time of year. "Photodamage from UV radiation accounts for 80% of skin ageing and it is also the main risk factor for developing skin cancer. Whilst avoiding sunburn is obvious, minimising cumulative day-to-day UV exposure over years is also important to reduce overall risk. Therefore daily use of a high factor, broad spectrum sunscreen all year round is fundamental for skin health. For the best protection half a teaspoon of sunscreen (SPF 30-50, UVA 5* rating) should be applied to the face, neck and ears in the morning. "The best sunscreen is the one that you'll actually want to use. Find a texture that you love, whether that's a lightweight gel for an oilier skin type, a nourishing cream for a dry or mature skin, a luxurious oil if you're feeling devitalised, or a plumping lotion if you're dehydrated. While some makeup products contain sunscreen, using a specific sunscreen will always ensure you are getting adequate coverage – and remember to reapply throughout the day.
